Why NESBA?

There's a functional difference between teaching someone how to "read", and teaching them how to "communicate". The success factors, for small businesses and start-ups, are far removed from titles such as: "How to start your own business", "How to market your business", "How to finance your business", etc. These offerings may constitute the equivalents of how to "read", but at NESBA, we go beyond the traditional to help you "knowingly" transform your ideas into successful businesses.

Based on The Entrepreneurial Development System, EDS, developed by Drs. Gregg A. Lichtenstein and Thomas S. Lyons, “LabFrog Ventures™, NESBA's flagship program, is a comprehensive entrepreneurs development and business training program developed to meet the needs of small business start-up owners who seek to develop their business skills and entrepreneurial capacities to enhance the chances of success of their businesses.

Based on action research philosophy, the program pedagogy is designed to build on each participant’s own previous business and life experiences to form a continuous process of innovation, i.e. knowledge attainment, hands-on application, deficiency detection, error correction, and new concept testing.  The program is structured into three main discovery and development areas:

  1. Business Functions: This classroom seminar/discussion-style instruction is designed to provide the participants with theoretical knowledge of the functional areas of the enterprise, i.e. Organization, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Operations, etc.,  In addition to the business functions theory, the critical and innovative thinking as well as problem-solving skills are integrated in the program.  Each concentration is delivered by a specialist in the field.  Seasoned entrepreneurial mentors guide participants, based on their experiences and levels of skill, in contextualizing this knowledge to their own fields or trades resulting in through research and completion of the various sections of each participant’s prospective start-up business plan.  This phase of the program spans a period of 90 days within which participants are teamed up with mentors who would be coaching them through the Entrepreneur Development stage.

  2. Business systems development: This is a specialist-guided process of designing and developing the start-up’s business systems, i.e. accounting systems, order-taking and job processing procedures, client-communication guidelines, etc.  This phase of the program spans a period of 30 days within which participants work with mentors to plan the implementation of business systems after business launch.

  3. The Entrepreneur Development stage:  The business formation and launch marks the beginning of the experiential dimension when participants start developing their entrepreneurial capacities and experiences through a process of personal transformation.  Paid mentors will coach participants, through the first year of the venture, as they embark on the exciting journey of self-discovery, self-awareness and a profound qualitative change.
